Congress Begins Nationwide Campaign Targeting 2027 State Polls
The party will contest eight state elections over the next 18 months with a messaging platform centred on unemployment, price rise, and constitutional rights.
The Indian National Congress has formally launched a nationwide campaign targeting eight state assembly elections scheduled over the next eighteen months, with party president Mallikarjun Kharge announcing a consolidated messaging platform built around three pillars: unemployment, price inflation, and what the party describes as threats to constitutional institutions.
The campaign, titled "Haq Ki Awaaz" (Voice of Rights), will be rolled out through Jan Sampark (public contact) programmes, direct beneficiary outreach, and social media across states including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat — all BJP-held states the Congress is targeting.
Rahul Gandhi will lead a signature campaign across states to gather 25 million signatures on a charter demanding a caste census, legally guaranteed minimum support prices for farmers, and a 50 per cent reservation on government employment for Other Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes.
The party's strategists acknowledge that winning back BJP-dominated states requires a fundamentally different approach than consolidating Congress governments. "We need to mobilise communities that voted for us in 2004 and 2009 but left in 2014," said a senior Congress general secretary.
