International Yoga Day 2026 Draws 300 Million Participants Across 190 Countries
The United Nations-declared annual event has become the world's largest coordinated mass wellness activity, with India hosting over 10 million participants in a single morning session.
The twelfth International Day of Yoga — declared by the United Nations in 2014 at India's initiative and held annually on June 21 — drew an estimated 300 million participants across 190 countries, the highest recorded since the event began, with India itself hosting over 10 million people in coordinated mass sessions.
Prime Minister Modi led a session at the iconic Sunder Nursery amphitheatre in New Delhi, with simultaneous events at Rajpath, India Gate, and 38 other designated national venues. The largest single gathering was at Rajghat, where approximately 2 million people performed asanas at dawn.
International participation has grown 34 per cent year-on-year, driven by government-organised sessions in Pakistan, China, the United States, Brazil, and across the European Union. The event has become a significant component of Indian cultural diplomacy.
The Ministry of Ayush, which coordinates the Indian government's yoga promotion activities, reported that 47 countries have now introduced yoga as a curriculum component in physical education at school level — a direct result of engagement through the International Day of Yoga process.
