India Commits ₹35,000 Crore Investment Across 25 African Nations
At the India-Africa Forum Summit, New Delhi pledged to double trade with the continent and establish technology and skills transfer programmes.
India has committed ₹35,000 crore in concessional financing across 25 African nations, with priority given to infrastructure, renewable energy, digital connectivity, and agricultural technology — sectors where Indian firms have demonstrated competitive capabilities.
The commitments, announced at the fifth India-Africa Forum Summit hosted in New Delhi, come as India seeks to consolidate its position on the continent against competition from China, which has deployed more than ten times this amount in Africa over the past decade.
Prime Minister Modi emphasised a different model of engagement: "India offers technology, training, and capacity building alongside infrastructure — we build capabilities, not dependencies." The phrase alluded to debt sustainability concerns that have emerged from Chinese infrastructure financing in several African economies.
Specific projects include a 500 MW solar power facility in Zambia jointly developed with NTPC, a pharmaceutical manufacturing hub in Ghana, and digital governance platforms adapted from India's own e-government stack.
